Not yet – probably won’t be able to do it till December when we move everything into storage because that’s the first chance we’ll have space to move the units back into the house.
You can be sure I’ll be writing a post on the subject when I do though!

Hi Andre, readers of my blog have identified two ways to paint the cabinets. (1) powder coating, as you have mentioned and (2) a very complicated DIY way that is for people who have A LOT of time on their hands. You can find both ways on my site under RE2 Basics. If you have the dough – send ‘em out!

The quality of these units is such that they only need a very good wash to degrease them (and to remove accumulated kitchen dirt, spider webs etc) and to rub them down lighly with scotch pads (red and green according to grade. These are available from spray paint suppliers such as brown brothers. I then used a cloth with thinners on it followed by a clean cloth with UPOL degreaser. I used car cellulose to spray in a self learning procedure which ended up after a few restarts as a useable finish. If you do not have spray gear you can use spray cans but this is slow and very expensive. Far better to give the prepared units to a sprayer to do them which will give a good finish. I removed the doors, side panels and drawers and sprayed the fronts of the carcases seperately. My units came up very well with only 2 coats and did not need oven baking to give a hard wearing finish.

Have you had the units powder coated yet? I’d be interested to see how they look. I’ve just bought 2 units and am looking at my options.
